iGulu Saison Kit: A Flexible Brew with Room to Explore

The iGulu Saison Kit offers more than one way to brew and enjoy a farmhouse-style beer.

A good Saison already has plenty of character on its own, crisp, refreshing, and full of farmhouse charm. But what makes it especially interesting is the room it leaves for exploration.

That’s what makes the Mike x iGulu Saison Kit stand out. It gives you a Saison base that’s easy to enjoy as-is, while also leaving space to shape the result in different ways.

A kit that already gives you room to DIY

What makes this kit different is that the flexibility starts with the kit itself.

Inside, you’re getting:

  • Golden Light malt extract
  • Belgian yeast
  • Hersbrucker aroma hops
  • Bittering addition
  • Two corn sugar packs
  • RFID brewing support

Even without adding anything extra, you already have different ways to brew it.

The kit itself already gives you different ways to shape the result. Brew it as a lighter Table / Session version with no sugar required at 3.5–5.0% ABV, use the full kit contents for a Standard version at 5.0–7.0% ABV, or push it into a stronger direction with fruits, spices, or sugar for a brew above 7.0% ABV.

So before you even start customizing flavor, the kit already lets you shape the result a little differently depending on how you brew it.

Mike’s custom version: Blackberry Sage Oolong Saison

Mike wanted to show how this kit could go in a more creative direction, so for his custom batch, he used a blackberry sage oolong tea base instead of plain water.

He brewed it with:

  • the Saison kit (both corn sugar packs)
  • 116 oz of water
  • 14 teaspoons of blackberry sage oolong tea

To make the tea base, he heated the water to about 195–200°F, steeped the tea for 4 minutes, stirred it lightly during steeping, then strained and chilled it before brewing. After that, he used it with the full kit and both sugar packs.

The result was a more layered Saison with blackberry character, herbal sage notes, and a more expressive farmhouse-style profile, finishing at around 5.6% ABV.

It’s a good example of what makes this kit so fun. The Saison base is already solid on its own, but it also gives you room to push it somewhere more personal.

A great style for exploring new directions

That’s why Saison is such a rewarding style to brew.

You can keep it classic and enjoy a crisp, easy farmhouse-style beer as it is.

Or you can explore new directions like:

Fruit-forward
Brighter berry or orchard-inspired notes can make the beer feel more vibrant, seasonal, and expressive.

Botanical or tea-inspired
Herbal, floral, or tea-based elements can add extra depth and a different farmhouse character, while still keeping the Saison base intact.

That balance is what makes this style so enjoyable. It already has enough personality to stand on its own, but it also leaves room for creativity.

Brew it your way

The Mike x iGulu Saison Kit is the kind of kit that works well whether you want to keep things simple or try something a little more personal.

You can brew it classic.
You can boost the ABV.
Or you can take inspiration from Mike’s blackberry sage oolong version and see where your own ideas go next.

That’s what makes Saison such a great style to explore.
