What is Mead?
Mead is probably the oldest alcoholic beverage to exist, it predates wine by thousands of years and it goes far back to ancient times. Mead is often referred to as “honey wine” because the process of making mead includes: fermented honey, water, and yeast. Mead is similar to wine but is not quite the same. The difference is the use of honey in mead rather than grapes as the source of sugar. Other ingredients such as fruits, spices, and hops can be added to mead too. It typically has an ABV of 8% - 20%. Now that you understand what mead is and how it differs from beer and wine, let’s dive into the recipe.
