After some back and forth, iGulu concluded the unit couldn't be saved, and sent me a new one. All good so far with my replacement unit. 

I was having the same issue here, but instead of not having the cylinder inserted fully I just found out the switch on the IGulu went way further to the left than I initially thought 😅
